Fluent English
Card text, set names, editions, misprint terminology and the international grading standards are all in English. Without solid English you cannot identify a card correctly, let alone grade it.
Platin Grading Service is one of Germany's leading card grading providers. We assess, document and encapsulate trading cards to defined, verifiable standards. We are currently filling three positions in grading, card intake and production, and are looking for candidates who meet the requirements profile in full.
The following four points apply to all three positions and are mandatory. We verify them during the interview. Applications without these qualifications cannot be considered.
Card text, set names, editions, misprint terminology and the international grading standards are all in English. Without solid English you cannot identify a card correctly, let alone grade it.
The entire workflow runs through our own system – intake, grading, documentation and certificates. You work at a computer all day and need to move through it quickly and confidently.
You know your way around the major trading card games – Pokémon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic and Lorcana: sets, rarity tiers, print variants and the typical weak points of each series. Everything passes through our hands, not just one game.
Collections of considerable value pass through our hands. We expect focused, precise work across the whole working day and absolute reliability when handling other people's property.
All three positions start immediately and can be filled full-time, part-time, as a mini-job or as a working student role. In addition to the requirements profile, the following applies per position.
As a grader for collectible cards you are responsible for the professional inspection and assessment of trading cards. You carefully examine cards for surface, corners, edges and centering, and document the assessment according to our defined grading standards. You enter the subgrades into our system at your workstation; the system derives the overall grade from them using fixed bands.
Grading is a profession with no formal apprenticeship, so we train in-house over a period of at least six months. Throughout that time you grade under supervision and in parallel with experienced graders, until your grades reliably match those of the team. Only then do you grade independently. The position is accordingly designed for the long term: we invest half a year of training and expect a serious, long-term commitment in return. Our grading standards are publicly documented under Grading Scale and Subgrades.
At intake you are responsible for receiving, checking and registering incoming collectible cards and customer orders. You check shipments for completeness, assign the cards to their respective orders and record all relevant data carefully in our system. The cards themselves run through our flatbed scanner: scanner and image recognition read out name, set, number and language – you verify every recognition against the physical card, correct any deviations and only then release the batch for the order.
The work is done at a fixed workstation and can be performed seated throughout. Our system guides you through every order; what matters is accuracy and consistent care during verification. The full workflow is documented under grading process.
In production you are responsible for the careful further processing of the graded cards. This includes preparing the cards, placing them into the cases, checking labels and certification data, and the final quality inspection. The result is what the customer holds in their hands – and the sealing process cannot be undone.
The work is physically light but demanding in terms of fine motor skills, and can be performed seated apart from operating the machinery. Sealing cannot be undone, which is why we work here with a double check and fixed inspection steps.
We ask for a complete application – that way we can assess you properly and do not have to keep asking for missing pieces. Please send us these four things:
Why this position, why PGS and what you bring. No essay – one page is plenty. Write it in your own words, not from a template.
Your CV with your previous positions. You are welcome to attach references, but they are not required for the first step.
Please state your salary expectation – it belongs in the application explicitly. Without it we cannot plan properly.
Which of the three positions you are applying for, in which model (full-time, part-time, mini-job or working student) and when you could start.
Send everything together as a PDF to jobs@platin-grading.de. All positions start immediately.
Grading is a specialised craft with no formal apprenticeship. We train in-house to our own standards – a qualification available at only a handful of places in Germany.
Grading criteria, workflow and documentation are fixed and publicly available. You work to clear specifications, not to gut feeling.
Fixed core hours Monday to Friday, no night shifts and no weekend work. Predictable, without a culture of overtime.
Collections of considerable value pass through our hands – from Base Set classics to current chase cards. Your work directly determines the value of the finished product.
Each of our open positions can be filled in four different models. Tell us in your application what fits your life – we will work around it.
A permanent position with full hours, Monday to Friday. The most direct route into grading practice – and the fastest training path.
Reduced hours on fixed days or at fixed times. Works well alongside family, studies or a second job.
Marginal employment. The requirements profile and quality standards apply unchanged – full training is provided here as well.
For enrolled students, with hours arranged around your timetable. You can increase your hours during the lecture-free period.
Cover letter, CV, salary expectation and preferred employment model – together as a PDF to jobs@platin-grading.de.
Usually within a few working days. Every application receives a reply, including in the case of a rejection.
In the interview we verify the requirements profile – English, system confidence and your TCG knowledge – and show you the workstations.
A day in the real workflow is more informative than any interview. If both sides are interested, the contract and starting date follow.
Yes. Grading has no formal apprenticeship – training happens in-house and takes at least six months for the grader position. What we do require is the requirements profile: fluent English, strong computer skills and solid TCG knowledge. Those foundations are not something we teach; they are what we build on.
Yes, it is mandatory – for all three positions. Without knowing sets, rarity tiers and print variants you can neither register a card correctly nor grade it correctly. Pokémon, One Piece, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Magic, Lorcana and sports cards all come through our door, so we expect solid knowledge across the major games, not just one. A general interest in trading cards is not sufficient.
Because the entire working material is in English: card text, set and edition names, misprint terminology and the international grading standards the market orients itself by. A significant share of our customer communication is in English as well.
Yes. We want to see a cover letter and CV, along with your salary expectation and the position and model you are applying for. References are welcome but not required for the first step.
Give us the figure that works for you – as a gross monthly salary for full-time, or as an hourly rate for part-time, mini-job and working student roles. An open figure is better than none: it is the basis for the conversation, not a knock-out criterion.
Yes. We generally offer a trial working day before either side commits. You get to see the real working day – not a polished version of it.
Absolutely. We keep growing, and not every role is advertised at all times. Tell us what you can do and what draws you to PGS – we will get in touch as soon as something suitable opens up.
